HUG
Hug Chair is a lounge chair made from fabric, developed to explore softness as both a physical and emotional quality of rest. As the body settles into the seat, the chair's form wraps gradually around the sitter — encircling the back, sides, and shoulders in a single continuous gesture that recreates the sensation of being held. Rather than treating comfort as an added layer, the design treats it as the primary experience, translating a simple embrace into cushion, curve, and warmth. The result is a chair that invites lingering, offering the quiet comfort of a hug through everyday, repeated use.
IDEATION:
The design of Hug Chair began with a mind map centered on comfort — starting from its purpose as a lounge chair meant for rest, I explored how mood and shape could reinforce that feeling, moving toward a playful, childlike sensibility rather than a minimal one. This pushed the form toward something soft, round, and slightly oversized, which in turn led me to velvet and a primary color palette of red, yellow, and blue to carry that same sense of warmth and play. Underneath, practical material choices — plywood, foam, and batting — became the structure that let this soft, exaggerated form hold its shape and invite the body in.
The overall form was modeled in 3D, then refined through several versions adjusting details like the backrest angle, and tested at small scale through 3D printing to check the actual ratio
