ASYM
ASYM is a chair made from cherry wood that explores asymmetry as both a visual and emotional experience. The differing heights of the armrests challenge conventional notions of balance while offering varied ergonomic interactions based on posture and use. Rather than treating symmetry as a default, the design embraces subtle imbalance to create a more dynamic relationship between the object and the body. The polished finish enhances the natural grain and warmth of the cherry wood, emphasizing material honesty and inviting long term engagement through touch and everyday use.
INSPIRATION:
Inspired by the 1934 Crate Chair and its exposed construction and geometric simplicity, I wanted to reinterpret the chair through my own design language. While maintaining a similar structural approach, I designed armrests at different heights as a key design element, exploring how asymmetry could create a more dynamic visual identity and seating experience.
