MOODI

MOODI is an ambient lamp designed to let the user shape the mood of a space through simple, tactile interactions. Rotating the wooden knob on the front adjusts the brightness, while the cover can be swapped for a different version to change the color of the light. The frosted cover softens the light source, spreading a diffused glow rather than a direct beam. Wood was chosen for the top and base to bring a sense of warmth to the object, so that even when the lamp is off, it feels calm and inviting in a room. Together, the materials and controls make MOODI less a device to operate and more an object to live with, adjusting quietly to the moment.

TARGETING USER:

People who like to set the mood wherever they go, whether visiting a friend, gathering for a small get-together, or spending an evening outdoors, and who want a lamp that is as easy to carry as it is to use.

PROBLEM:

Most ambient lamps are fixed to a wall outlet, so the mood they create stays in one room. When we gather somewhere new, there is often no easy way to bring that atmosphere along.

PROTOTYPES:

PAPER MOCKUP: Testing the basic form in small scale

FULL SCALE PROTOTYPE: Testing the cover and base in PETG and hardwood

The cover was made by heat-bending acrylic over a wooden mold and testing it with different colored films. A dimmer and battery pack were then soldered and fitted into the base to create a cordless dimming function.
